Build, Challenge, Triumph with BLDNG!
BLDNG is a card game for 2-6 players where you take on the role of skilled builders. It may seem simple, but there are many unexpected events that can happen!
The goal of the game is to complete your project before your opponents by collecting all the geometric shapes represented in your project card.
There are projects to be completed: each player draws one and keeps it hidden. Each project consists of a group of four geometric shapes in different colors.
The BLDNG deck contains cards with single shapes and jolly card that allow players to use multiple shapes or colors.
Game description:
Minimum players: 2
Maximum players: 6
Instructions:
Step 0: Divide the cards into two decks: one deck with the “Shapes” and “What happens” cards, and one deck with the “Projects” cards.
Step 1: Decide the direction of play and who is the starting player.
Step 2: Shuffle the “Project” cards, place them face down on the table, and draw one card each, being careful not to show it to the other players.
Step 3: Shuffle the “Shapes” and “What happens” cards, place them face down on the table, and start drawing one card each following the direction of play chosen at the beginning. Once drawn, the “Shapes” cards are placed on the table side by side so that they are visible to all players.
Step 4: After reaching the number of cards required by their project (8 or 10 cards), players take turns drawing one card and discarding one card that is not needed for their project, thus creating a new deck (which will be the new deck to draw from if the main deck is exhausted).
Note: When a player has reached the number of cards in their project (8 or 10), they can choose to draw, if they need it for their project, the last card discarded by the player who played before them. Attention: Only “Shapes” cards can be drawn, not “What happens” cards.
Step 5: Follow the dynamics of the game (see IF rules).
Step 6: The first player to complete the project wins: congratulations, you are a builder!
IF rules:
- When the cards in the first “Shapes” deck run out, shuffle the cards in the second deck (created from the discarded cards) and start drawing again.
- If a “What happens” card is drawn, it must be used immediately, the required action must be performed and it must be immediately discarded (except for the “You can have up to 15 cards” card which must be kept next to the “Shapes” cards until the end of the game), follow the instructions (see “What happens” card instructions).
- If a player has one or more cards removed, the player will draw others when it is their turn (NB they can only draw one card per turn), until they have the number of cards required for their project again.
- In addition to the single shape cards, there are the Jolly cards: any of the shapes represented in the Jolly card can be used. Attention: each Jolly card is worth only one shape of one color, the player will decide which shape/color based on what they need to complete their project.
“What happens” card instructions:
Take three cards (2 cards):
The player takes three cards from the deck and discards three, then immediately discards the “What happens” card by placing it in the discard pile.
Take one card from each player (1 card):
The player takes one card they need from each player, discards a number of cards equal to the number they have taken, then immediately discards the “What happens” card by placing it in the discard pile. (If there are no cards to take, the card must still be discarded immediately.)
Steal one Circle/Square/Triangle/Rectangle (4 cards):
The player takes one card from another player of their choice that has the shape
described on the card (Wild cards do not count), then immediately discards the “What happens” card by placing it in the discard pile.
(If there are no cards to take, the card must still be discarded immediately.)
Shift all subjects to the right (1 card):
The player shifts all projects one place to the right, so that everyone ends up with the project that was to the left of them, then immediately discards the “What happens” card by placing it in the discard pile.
Change subject (1 card):
Change Project: The player puts their Project card under the Project deck and draws a new one from the top, then immediately discards the “What happens” card by placing it in the discard pile.
Reverse (2 cards):
The direction of play is changed from left to right or vice versa, then the “What happens” card is immediately discarded by placing it in the discard pile.
Give 5 cards back (1 card):
The player takes 5 of their cards and discards them, then immediately discards the “What happens” card by placing it in the discard pile. (If the player does not have 5 cards, they must still discard all the cards they have.)
Skip your turn (2 cards):
The player skips their turn, does not draw or discard any cards, then immediately discards the “What happens” card by placing it in the discard pile.
You can have up to 15 cards (1 card):
Thanks to this card, the player can have up to 15 cards, in addition to this, regardless of the number shown on their project. The player keeps the card until the end of the game, there is no need to discard it.
Good luck and… happy building with BLDNG!
